Welcome to St. Michael’s School! As a parent and an educator, I know the importance of finding the right school for your child. Both of my daughters attended St. Michael’s and they loved it here. My youngest just graduated in the Class of 2020. As Principal, I’m continually striving to provide new opportunities for our students. While our institution is over 120-years-old, we embrace the new and combine it with our rich history and traditions to provide an excellent 21st century Catholic education.
St. Michael’s has provided a quality Catholic education rooted in the Dominican tradition since 1903. We maintain close ties with the Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose. Their foundation, Vision of Hope, is an important funder of our tuition assistance program, which helps us to reduce tuition for families experiencing financial hardships.
At St. Michael’s we nurture a child’s love of learning and their Catholic faith in a safe and supportive environment. We believe in developing the whole child—mind, body, and spirit. Our dedicated teachers build a solid academic foundation and instill Catholic values that pave the way to a successful and meaningful life.
Our school is departmentalized from TK through eighth grade. This means that students rotate during their day to different classrooms where teachers specialize in one or two core subjects. This allows teachers to teach the subjects they are passionate about and helps them get to know each child’s strengths and challenges and how to best help each student. Plus, it allows teachers to dive deeper into content.
In addition to the core subjects of English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies, as a Catholic school, we also teach Religion and students attend Mass weekly. As a proponent of a holistic education, we provide: weekly music class, physical education twice a week using the Fit Kids program, and art instruction through Art Trek. Counseling services are offered through CPLA.
St. Michael’s is committed to preparing students with the skills necessary to be successful in the 21st century. We believe that a Blended STEAM education rooted in our Catholic beliefs will help develop ethical and responsible leaders who are effective communicators, collaborators and problem solvers. Integrating technology into teaching allows for differentiation of learning at a child’s own pace. Students use in-class iPads, as well as several online educational programs that help students to master content.
In order to develop a child’s gifts and talents, we offer a variety of free after school classes and programs throughout the year including multiple sports teams, tutoring, choir, Spanish, art, and more. Students can also develop their leadership skills through community service, student council, student ambassadors, lectoring, and more.
To help parents guide and assist their child’s educational development, we also offer parent education programs through our partnerships with the LMU Ideal, Vision of Hope PIA Program and CPLA.
